Purpose
To recognize and reward organizations that:
- progress the principles of sustainability (environmental, social and economic impacts) and demonstrate impact
- meet or address specific development needs (health, education, access to water, etc)
- value innovation and partnership as a path to sustainable success
- Create opportunities for not-for-profit, civil society and non-governmental organizations to secure additional funds and resources
Objectives of the Alcan Prize for Sustainability
To:
- Recognize and reward not-for-profit, civil society or non-governmental organizations that make a significant contribution to integrating economic, environmental and social sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations
- Raise awareness of local, regional, national or international not-for-profit and civil society organisations engaged in sustainable activities
- Foster a legacy of sustainability by supporting the work of Prize and Grant Recipients and enhancing their ability to build capacity and have further impact
- Communicate sustainability practices and programs by promoting examples provided in Prize entries
