Objectives
Purpose
To recognize and reward organizations that:
  • progress the principles of sustainability (environmental, social and economic impacts) and demonstrate impact
  • meet or address specific development needs (health, education, access to water, etc)
  • value innovation and partnership as a path to sustainable success
  • Create opportunities for not-for-profit, civil society and non-governmental organizations to secure additional funds and resources

Objectives of the Alcan Prize for Sustainability
To:
  • Recognize and reward not-for-profit, civil society or non-governmental organizations that make a significant contribution to integrating economic, environmental and social sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations
  • Raise awareness of local, regional, national or international not-for-profit and civil society organisations engaged in sustainable activities
  • Foster a legacy of sustainability by supporting the work of Prize and Grant Recipients and enhancing their ability to build capacity and have further impact
  • Communicate sustainability practices and programs by promoting examples provided in Prize entries

The Alcan Prize for Sustainability programme is climate neutral and offsets CO2 emissions generated
from management and travel activities relating to the Prize with contributions to Climate Care.
